Terms of use.

The rules of the road for reading and using NRI Outpost. We've tried to write them in plain English. The substance is still legally binding.

Last updated · 21 May 2026 (R2 audit revision)
The most important part, said simply: Everything on this site is general information, not professional advice. It can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Verify anything important with a qualified professional — a tax accountant, immigration lawyer, financial advisor — before acting on it. If you act on what you read here and it turns out to be wrong, that's on you, not us.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By using nrioutpost.com (the "Site"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use the Site. The Site is operated as a personal project by an individual based in the United States, referred to throughout as "we," "us," or "NRI Outpost."

2. Nature of the information

NRI Outpost publishes general, informational content about topics relevant to Non-Resident Indians living in the United States and Canada — including but not limited to travel rules, customs, immigration, taxation, banking, healthcare, and housing. This content is provided for general educational purposes only.

Your situation is unique. Rules change frequently and vary by jurisdiction, your visa status, your tax residency, your individual history, and dozens of other factors that this Site cannot account for. Always consult a qualified, licensed professional before making decisions based on anything you read here.

NRI Outpost makes no representation that information is current as of the date you read it. Tax law, customs rules, immigration policy, and financial regulations change frequently and without notice. Information that was accurate when published may no longer reflect current law. The presence of a specific figure, rate, deadline, or rule on this site does not constitute a warranty of its accuracy or current applicability. You assume all risk from reliance on any content published here.

3. No warranty of accuracy

We try hard to keep information current and correct, but we make no warranty, express or implied, that anything on the Site is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose. Information is provided "as is" and "as available." We may update or remove content at any time without notice. The "Last reviewed" date displayed on each section is the last time we audited that section — but rules can change the day after we audit.

4. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, NRI Outpost and its operator(s) are not liable for any damages — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages — arising out of or in connection with:

This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages — in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

5. Third-party links and services

The Site links to third-party websites — grocery stores, government portals, financial services, immigration resources, community groups, and more. We don't control these websites and don't endorse them. Listing a business or service on the Site is not a recommendation; it's a starting point for your own research. We aren't responsible for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, products, or services of any third party. Use them at your own risk.

6. Affiliate disclosure & advertising

Some links on the Site are affiliate links, marked with ↗. If you click an affiliate link and sign up for the linked service, NRI Outpost may earn a small referral fee at no extra cost to you. This is one way the Site is funded.

The Site also displays third-party advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, which may be personalized depending on your location and settings. Advertising revenue helps keep the Site free. How ads are served, what data is involved, and how to opt out of personalized ads are described in our Privacy Policy.

Neither affiliate fees nor advertising influence which services we list, how we rank them, or what we say about them. Editorial selections are made independently. We do not accept paid placement — no business pays us to be included on the Site or featured in any section. If a relationship ever changes, we'll update this Section and prominently mark the relevant area of the Site.

7. Calculators and tools

The Site offers interactive tools (currency converter, health insurance estimator, housing budget calculator). These produce indicative estimates only. Real-world numbers depend on the specifics of your case, current rates and rules, and many variables the tools don't capture. Never make a financial, tax, or immigration decision based on a calculator output without verifying with a qualified professional and the relevant official source.

8. User submissions

If you submit content to the Site (an error report, a tip, a comment via email, a newsletter signup), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, modify, and publish that content as part of the Site or its communications, without attribution unless you specifically request it. Don't submit anything confidential, anything you don't have rights to share, or anything containing personal information about third parties without their consent.

9. Intellectual property

The Site's design, layout, writing, code, and other original content are owned by NRI Outpost (or used under license). You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link back. You may not republish, mirror, or substantially copy the Site without written permission.

DMCA — copyright infringement claims. NRI Outpost respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512). We have designated an agent to receive notifications of claimed copyright infringement. To submit a takedown notice (or counter-notice), email legal@nrioutpost.com with the subject line "DMCA Notice", or look up our entry in the US Copyright Office DMCA Designated Agent directory.

Valid takedown notice (§512(c)(3)) must include: identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the allegedly infringing material with enough detail for us to locate it (URL is best), your contact info, a good-faith statement that the use is not authorised, a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you are the rightsholder or authorised to act on their behalf, and your physical or electronic signature.

Counter-notice (§512(g)(3)) must include: identification of the material removed and the location at which it appeared before removal; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification; your name, address, and telephone number; and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, of any judicial district in which NRI Outpost may be found) and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original takedown notice or an agent of that person.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless NRI Outpost and its operator(s) from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party. This indemnification does not apply to claims arising solely from NRI Outpost's own gross negligence or willful misconduct — the carve-out exists so that this clause remains enforceable in jurisdictions (including California, Texas, and Florida) that will not enforce a no-carve-out indemnification against a consumer counterparty.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Williamson County, Tennessee, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes — meaningful changes to your rights, our liability, or how disputes are resolved — will be highlighted on the Site for at least 30 days. If you are an active newsletter subscriber, we will also email you about material changes before they take effect. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
